Prince Chunk Foundation Provides Pet Food & Emergency Vet Care for Those Affected by Troubled Economy

The Prince Chunk Foundation was launched last month to help struggling pet parents keep their pets during times of financial crisis. The fund provides temporary assistance, including free emergency veterinary care and free pet food, to cash-strapped pet owners, so they don't have to choose between caring for themselves and caring for their pets. According to the ASPCA, between 500,000 to one million dogs and cats in the United States are at risk of becoming homeless in an economic downturn.

This new foundation is named after Prince Chunk, a cat who was abandoned to fend for himself on the street in Voorhees, New Jersey, in August 2008 when his caretaker lost her home to foreclosure. While Prince Chunk was lucky enough to find a loving home, many animals are not nearly as lucky. His adopter, Vince Damiani, who fell in love with Prince Chunk while working at the animal shelter in Camden, was inspired to start the foundation to help other animals whose families are facing financial challenges.

Initially, the Prince Chunk Foundation will assist dogs and cats in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California, but eventually will expand to include other pets nationwide.

To learn more about the Prince Chunk Foundation, including who qualifies for assistance, how to apply, or to make a donation, visit the Prince Chunk Foundation website.
