Recipients, determined by raffle, included feral cat caretakers from all five boroughs. A total of 150 bundles of straw — enough to outfit 150 standard-size winter shelters — was distributed. Straw is an approved insulation for feral cat winter shelters because it does not draw heat away from the cat's body. SaveKitty Foundation co-hosted the Queens straw giveaway, and SaveKitty co-founder Rosary Immordino coordinated the effort. In Brooklyn, the giveaway was managed by volunteer Lilo Lorentz, and on Staten Island, volunteer Debbie Preto coordinated the effort. Learn where you can get straw for your shelters.
